CEDAC's 40th anniversary celebration, held at the MIT Samberg Conference Center in March 2019, was a special opportunity for us to honor former State Representative Mel King and recognize other members of the Commonwealth's community development sector. We were joined by current and former staff, board members, and non-profit partners from across Massachusetts to highlight our collective achievements over the last four decades.
In addition to CEDAC honoring Mel King, the Children's Investment Fund presented Judy Cody, executive director of the Beverly Children's Learning Center (BCLC), with the Mav Pardee Award for Building Quality. The celebration also featured lightning talks with representatives from the state's community development sector on CEDAC's three key program areas: affordable housing preservation; supportive housing; and the Children's Investment Fund. The event also featured a video with welcoming remarks from Governor Baker.
The Samberg Conference Center location was fitting, since the idea for a public/private agency that provides technical expertise to non-profit community development organizations was first discussed in weekly sessions that King hosted during the 1970's while teaching at MIT's Department of Urban Planning and Studies and leading the Community Fellows Program there.
Please take a few minutes to enjoy a few photos from that celebration. We look forward to continuing to work together to strengthen the Commonwealth's community development sector.
