Working with Skilled Immigrants—Tools for Workforce Development Professionals

December 10, 2013 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Massachusetts has one of the most highly-skilled foreign born workforces in the U.S., with one in three immigrants holding a bachelor’s degree or higher, more than half the time earned outside the U.S. But once they arrive here many of these immigrants face obstacles to putting their advanced education and skills to work, due to language barriers, unfamiliarity with U.S. work culture, and the difficulty of recertifying in their professions.

This workshop for Massachusetts workforce development professionals will address these and related challenges, discussing ways to help skilled immigrants and immigrant professionals navigate career pathways in the Commonwealth. In the workshop you will learn:
– Who are the skilled immigrants in Massachusetts
– Essential recredentialing and licensing information
– Tools and best practices to guide skilled immigrants in their career search (includes case studies)
– Local and online resources for skilled immigrants and workforce development professionals

The workshop is presented by World Education Services Global Talent Bridge, in partnership with the Boston Private Industry Council and the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition. The session is free of charge, and a light breakfast will be provided.
