Summer 2017 Newsletter

From the Desk of the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Summer’s warm weather usually brings with it groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, and this summer was no different. In this newsletter, you will read about two new affordable housing projects that have completed predevelopment work and are moving into the construction phase. These projects include the first major housing development by the Southwest Boston CDC, the Residences at Fairmount Station, a transit-oriented project in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston, and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg House sponsored by Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly (JCHE), a 61-unit supportive elderly housing project in Brighton that enjoys the support of public officials at all levels of government.  CEDAC is honored to support our non-profit partners who are developing these projects.

You’ll also get to learn a little more about Kira Taj, the Associate Director of Research and Development for Children’s Investment Fund and how the work she does helps child care providers throughout the Commonwealth. At the end of August, the Baker-Polito administration announced $4.1 million in Early Education and Out of School Time (EEOST) Capital Fund grants to five early education and care providers across Massachusetts – Child Care of the Berkshires, Belchertown Day School, Inc., Action for Boston Community Development, YWCA of Southeastern Massachusetts, and Worcester Community Action Council.

Fiscal Year 2018 is an important year for CEDAC because we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary.  Over the next few months, you’ll hear more about our plans to celebrate four decades of community development leadership – and you’ll learn more about the joint accomplishments of our non-profit community development partners and CEDAC since 1978 to provide quality affordable housing, child care facilities, and workforce development services to Massachusetts. To that end, we have recently launched a blog, INSITES, that will keep you up to date on our current projects as well as provide a look back on 40 years of community development.

As always, this work is only possible through collaboration with our public and private partners. If you have any questions or comments about our work, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to give me a call at (617) 727-5944.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Roger Herzog
Executive Director
