Summer 2018 Newsletter

From the Desk of the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

As you will see in our Summer newsletter, the hard work and dedication of our community development partners in the Commonwealth has resulted in numerous events held to highlight project accomplishments over the last few months. We were also able to celebrate an important milestone on May 31st, when Governor Baker signed the $1.8 billion Housing Bond Bill, which will provide significant funding for three supportive housing programs we manage, along with the Home Modification Loan Program and the Early Education and Out of School Time (EEOST) Capital Fund.

This newsletter also includes some interesting insights into our work, with articles on the Vacant Land Acquisition Fund, FCF-funded group homes, supporting CDCs in Worcester, affordable housing preservation, equitable transit-oriented development beyond Boston, and the most recent Building Strong Centers training. In guest posts, we also heard from Susan Crandall of the Commonwealth Workforce Coalition about this year’s Sharing Skills~Building Connections conference and from Jennifer Gilbert of the Kuehn Charitable Foundation about the Kuehn Planning Grants. And most importantly, we welcomed our new board chair, Undersecretary for Housing and Community Development Janelle Chan.

So you can see that, as the weather has finally warmed up, we’ve been quite busy. We’re continuing plans to celebrate our 40th anniversary and you’ll be hearing more from us soon about our efforts. As always, we’re eager to hear from you, so if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call me at (617) 727-5944.

Sincerely,

Roger Herzog
Executive Director
