Winter 2016/2017 Newsletter

From the Desk of the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

The end of 2016 and beginning of 2017 was a busy time for us. As you will see in the article about affordable housing production, the last quarter of 2016 saw a high volume of developments reach construction completion and open their doors or complete predevelopment work, close on project financing, and start construction, including important preservation or production projects in Northampton, Brockton, Somerville and Framingham. It is encouraging to see so many diverse organizations and neighborhoods recognize the value of quality affordable housing in their communities.

Like every organization, we are fully aware of the uncertain federal funding climate for community development projects. We are fortunate in Massachusetts to have elected and appointed leadership and a network of community development and other non-profit affordable housing developers and child care providers who are committed to helping to strengthen their communities.

We are experiencing our own transitions, as well. We have recently moved our offices to 18 Tremont Street, not far from our previous office space in downtown Boston. As you can see in the Organizational News section, we are also fortunate to welcome two new members to CEDAC’s Board of Directors who have been appointed by Governor Baker. Margaret Wagner of First Atlantic Capital joined us in January and MassHousing’s executive director, Tim Sullivan, has filled the seat vacated by the recently retired Tom Gleason. We want to thank Tom for his many years of service, not only to CEDAC, but to the affordable housing community in general, and we wish him the best of luck as he makes a transition to the next chapter of his life.

As always, we want to hear from you about our work. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call me at (617) 727-5944 or email me at rherzog@cedac.org.

Thank you,
