Building Stronger Centers
Since demand for capital funding for renovations and improvements to child care space is high, it is important that providers be ready when opportunities for capital become available. BSC is a comprehensive program designed to help prepare providers for success in planning and completing large scale facilities improvement projects. The training is most appropriate for organizations planning a major facility renovation or expansion project within the next 2 to 3 years.
BSC is offered to non-profit providers in Massachusetts that operate licensed, center-based ECE or OST programs. Preference is given to programs that serve 25% or more children that receive subsidies from the Department of Early Education and Care or Head Start.
BSC is designed for key management staff that will play a major role in planning and implementing the facility project. We recommend that two people per organization attend the training.
The next BSC training will be held on May 2025.
The Building Stronger Centers training prepares ECE and OST practitioners to undertake facility development project. The training includes access to expert advice and case studies on successful projects.
Among the topics covered will be:
- An overview of the facility development process
- Capital budgeting & the impact on organizational finances
- Capital campaigns and financing sources
- High-quality design
- Identifying and hiring professionals to help with the project
- Strategic thinking and sharing your project vision
During the year following BSC, the Fund helps providers move projects forward by providing project-specific technical assistance with individual projects, additional trainings (Community of Practice) to pursue topics identified by BSC participants, and access to financing.
